October 22, 2025 · The Philippines and Japan signed a memorandum of cooperation (MOC) through agencies Department of Energy and Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, respectively. The partnership aims for knowledge sharing and joint projects on key energy transition and climate change mitigation initiatives, including renewable energy (RE), hydrogen, ammonia, energy storage, liquefied natural gas, and carbon capture, PhilStar reported.
The principal coordinating bodies for implementation will be the Philippines’ Energy Policy and Planning Bureau and Japan’s Agency for Natural Resources and Energy.
The Philippine Energy Plan targets increasing renewable electricity from its current 22 percent to 35 percent by 2030 and 50 percent by 2040.
